A Very Serious Sandwich at Mission Sandwich Social

I take sandwiches pretty seriously.

And Mission Sandwich Social makes very serious sandwiches.

I’ve been to this Williamsburg sandwich shop three times now. The first time I got the Tim Howley. The second time I tried the Steve Byrne.

The third time, I got the Steve Byrne again.

That probably tells you everything you need to know.

Mission Sandwich Social is about two blocks from a co-working space I use sometimes, which makes it dangerously convenient whenever I’m working in Brooklyn.

These are not subtle sandwiches.

The Dutch Crunch Matters

I brought my precious sandwich down the block to Domino Square to get this party started…

They’re huge, stacked and messy enough that you need to think about your approach before taking the first bite.

But somehow, they hold together.

A lot of that comes down to the Dutch crunch roll.

It’s perfectly soft with a slightly chewy exterior, giving you just enough structure without turning every bite into a fight with the bread. A few bits may fall off along the way, but the sandwich itself never loses its structural integrity.

And that matters.

The Steve Byrne is a monster, but it never feels like one of those sandwiches piled ridiculously high just for a photo.

You can actually eat the thing.

It’s messy. Your hands are going to be involved. There will probably be some cleanup afterward.

But that’s exactly what I want from a sandwich like this.

A Sandwich to Be Proud Of

Three visits in and Mission Sandwich Social is already becoming part of my Williamsburg routine.

Go work for a few hours.

Walk two blocks.

Eat an unreasonable sandwich on an excellent Dutch crunch roll.

Get back to work.

I should probably try something different next time.

But I’ve already ordered the Steve Byrne twice.

I think we both know where this is going.

AND SHLAYED!

NRDLIFE.
