Found: My Favorite Brunch Spot In Logan Square Chicago

Longman & Eagle

One word I would use to describe Longman & Eagle is perfection! Every part of the dining experience here is executed with excellence! My friends live in Logan Square and we had to come here for brunch while I was visiting. The place is not fancy at all but has great character and the food rivals the type of food you would expect from a fancy restaurant. Longman & Eagle also has one of the most extensive whiskey selections in Chicago. Since I am not drinking alcohol right now, I ordered an iced coffee while my friends started off with some Bloody Mary’s.

The coffee was delicious and comes from a local coffee roaster called Hexe Coffee Co. This was my first time trying Hexe Coffee and I’d have to say it is on the same level as some other high-end coffee spots in Chicago. As I was enjoying my iced coffee, I perused the menu with hunger in belly. I quickly realized there were no wrong choices here – only delicious ones!

Decisions, decisions… What do I choose? Do I go with the mouth watering Corned Duck Hash? The Pastrami Cured Lox? Not today… Today I am feeling poached eggs and hollandaise sauce, so I went with the Soft Shell Crab Benedict. And boy was it amazing!

Let’s start off with the base of this dish. The sourdough toast on the bottom was buttered and toasted impeccably – adding a nice crunch to each bite. The hollandaise sauce had a delicious smokiness from the Nduja sausage and was balanced well by the pickled asparagus chimichurri. These two sauces paired perfectly with the slightly salty soft shell crab. I thoroughly enjoyed this dish and did not want it to end!

I also ordered a side of Latke Hashbrowns. All I have to say is… whoa whoa whoa stop the clock! I had no idea hashbrowns could be done so exquisitely like this. The inside was soft and creamy with a hint of parsley, juxtaposed by the crispy salty exterior. It also came with a smoked apple butter for dipping. The smokiness of the apple butter complimented the hashbrowns so well. Even though my appetite subsided towards the end of the meal, that did not stop me from gleefully forcing the rest of those hashbrowns down my gullet.

THE SHLAYED PICS

CONCLUSION

Longman & Eagle is a staple of Logan Square and this meal solidified it’s supremacy for me. The staff is very personable and we had a great time just chatting with the bartenders. If you are visiting Logan Square, I highly recommend checking out Longman & Eagle!
